During the months of May and June, we have and will be celebrating two very special holidays, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. These days have been set aside as important times to honor our moms and dads. It’s hard to think sometimes of what kind of gift that we could ever give them to show them how thankful we are for all the wonderful love that they give to us. One of the greatest gifts that we could give is actually something that we could do every day of the year. It is the gift of “obedience”.
The Bible tells us in Colossians 3:23, “Children obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” When we do what our parents ask us to do, right away without complaining, we not only please them, but we please God as well. We don’t have to get a ride to the store to get it. We don’t have to ask for money to buy it. Yet, it will bring our moms and dads, and our Lord, lasting joy for years to come. Obedience also teaches us an important life lesson to put others’ needs before our own. This truth reminds me of a song I used to sing as a child “Jesus, Others, and You, what a wonderful way to spell “JOY”! Learn early to show love and respect to your parents with simple obedience so that both you and they will share the great blessings of living to please God in all that we do!
