Jesus was having a very busy day. I am sure He was tired, thirsty and yes, possibly even a bit frustrated. He had been sharing God’s message of truth with the religious leaders of the day and they were responding negatively with growing doubt and distrust in His words. His answers seem to be followed by more and more questions rather than resolve. Suddenly, like music to His ears, He heard the unmistakable voice of a young child. It was quickly hushed and overpowered by a stern disciple’s rebuke, “please go away, Jesus is too busy for you today!” The Bible tells us in Mark 10:14-15 that “…when Jesus saw it, He was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” The reason Jesus was upset was He knew that it was important for children to come near and hear His life-saving message of God’s plan to save them. He knew that unlike the grownups, they would intently listen and trust that what Jesus said was true and with their simple faith they would one day be in Heaven with Him forever! He was so glad to see them that He gave them His full attention and loving care as we read in verse 16: “…he took them up in his arms, put his hands on them, and blessed them.” Can you just imagine how excited those children were to be loved on by Jesus? Well, you don’t have to imagine it, you can experience it yourself. Jesus said that whoever believes that He died for their sins, He would give them everlasting life. Won’t you come to Jesus today? He will hear your voice as plain as He did of those children so many years ago. “Social distance”? Not on your life! He will take you in His arms, bless you, and never let you go!
