One of the most celebrated holidays in the month of February (no, it is not Groundhog’s Day!) is Valentine’s Day. We continue a tradition that began hundreds of years ago. Cards are exchanged starting from preschool until it is not “cool” anymore; to let our friends know that we love and care about them. As we get older, our love interests become more targeted as we hope to find the one that will love us back the same way for the rest of our lives. Cards are then accompanied by chocolates, flowers, jewelry, and even more expensive things to show our “true love” to that special someone.
God gave the most targeted gift of all time. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” This amazing gift of eternal life in heaven was given to YOU! Jesus’ death on the cross to pay for your sins is unmatched by any attempt of love we could ever give. In John 15:13 it says, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” If we were looking for a definition of “true love” it is found right here in the Bible. The best part is that it can never be taken away! In John 10:28 God says, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Gifts are not ours unless we receive them personally. Have you received God’s gift of eternal life and trusted in Christ’s death for your sins? If you have, thank and praise Him. If you have not, I urge you to do it today!
