I recently took my family on a road trip to attend my second oldest daughter’s graduation all the way out to Arizona. We drove nearly six thousand miles to complete our journey there and back. Travel by airplane would have been much quicker; however, we would have missed seeing all the beauty that each different state affords. We did not quite go from “sea to shining sea” but it was close! We saw the rolling hills of Tennessee, the mighty Mississippi River, as well as the incredibly large wind turbines, ranches, desert lands, and oil fields of Texas. I would have to say though, that the most impressive sight to behold was only about an hour from our hotel in Arizona and it was the Grand Canyon.
Most of the spectators simply stood and quietly stared as they marveled at its expansive beauty. The verse from the Bible that came to my mind was Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God”. To consider the Almighty Creator God’s masterpieces of design often causes us to be short of words. Later in the book of Psalms, we read in chapter 139 verse 14, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” The same God who crafted this amazing Earth also crafted us individually!
We are all a “masterpiece” in His eyes. When was the last time you praised Him for how He made you exactly according to His perfect design and plan? If you would like to see one of the “great wonders of the world”, you do not need to drive six thousand miles. Just take a moment, look in the mirror and praise the One who fearfully and wonderfully made you!
