‘Tis the Season by Pastor Tom

One of the greatest blessings of living here in the Northeast is that we have four different seasons to enjoy. They each provide a change in temperature and scenery and in some cases opportunities for new activities. The season of all, I think, is my favorite season of all. The vibrant colors, the welcomed chill following the oppressive heat of summer are both nice changes, but the season of Thanksgiving is what I look forward to the most. The season of Thanksgiving is often highlighted by great food and family gatherings and these times together build great and lasting memories. In all of these good things, we must never forget the reason why we do them. The Bible tells us in Psalm 100:4 to “…be thankful unto him (God), and bless His name.” The Psalmist clearly reminds us that it is God who gives us all that we have and that we should be thankful to Him for His wonderful blessings. We also read in 2 Corinthians 9:15, “Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.” This verse brings to us the thoughts of yet another season. The Christmas season is one that gifts are exchanged between loved ones. God began this giving many years ago when He gave His only Son to die for sins and give us a home in heaven if we place our trust in Him for doing it for us. What a marvelous thought that God would love us so much! We should always be in the “Season of Thanksgiving”. How about you? How thankful are you today? It might be a helpful exercise to write a list of the things that you can thank God for. A song writer once wrote, “Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.”

Happy Thanksgiving!
