“The Prince of Peace” By Pastor Tom

Just a few short weeks ago as we celebrated Christmas, we were reminded of the story of Jesus birth as a baby in a manger. Luke 2:13-14 shares this familiar angelic announcement; “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” The Old Testament prophet Isaiah called Jesus, the “Prince of Peace”. So where then is all this ‘peace on earth and good will toward men’ today? We certainly do not find it on the news!

As much as peace has been offered to the entire earth, it can only be experienced by those who trust in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. The peace that our world has to offer is always short-lived and will come and go depending upon who the current ruler is at the time. Jesus promised us this in John 14:27; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

There have been many things happening lately that seem very troubling, but if we have placed our faith in Jesus, those things should not cause us to be afraid anymore. The Bible tells us that one day Jesus will be coming back to be our permanent King and then there will be peace on earth without end, forever. Until then, always remember the peace that we have in our hearts, trusting Jesus to care for us no matter what happens, is a peace that has no end right now. Let’s begin 2021 as a year without fear because Jesus is always near. He is our Prince of Peace, and that is why my friends, the angels were and still are excitingly praising God for His wonderful Gift He gave to us so many years ago!
